It seems that one of the most effective roles IMFORMING design can have is to clarify and sythesize information for ease of comprehension. Historically, this method of presentaiton could have significant political sway. William Playfair’s 19th century diagrams for the king of England changed national policy.While I don’t envision my charts having quite that dramatic an impact, I do think they can be helpful in synthesizing complex information. For this project, we were asked to take an idea that related to our thesis and filter it through the lens of a classmate’s project. I was given Christian’s work as my lens. Given his propensity to diagram, I decided to take a dense and technical article about safer birthing practices in rural India and create a visual that reflected the influence of education initiatives. I used Christian’s muted color palette and refined typography to inform my aesthetic decisions.This form was the inspiration for the EMPOWER logo.
